FAQ

How does it work?
Solar power turns sun light into power. The power that comes from the solar panels is a DC voltage which is then converted to 230v AC through an inverter. The diagram below shows how a grid-connected solar photovoltaic system works.

What happens to excess electricity produced?

All power that is produced during the day from your solar system will first supplement your house power requirements, then if there is any surplus power left it will export to the grid for potential credits on your next electricity bill.

How much do I get for my surplus power that is exported to the grid?

Customers are rewarded with a feed-in-tariff which pays them for the electricity generated by the solar system. Each state has a different feed-in-tariff and different ways of measuring and paying. Some states pay based on ‘net’ and some on ‘gross’. The difference between gross and net is below.

Net: Pays the customer for any extra energy produced which can be fed back into the National Grid. The customer is paid for all surplus energy that they do not use which can be used by the National Grid.

Gross: The customer gets paid for every kW produced regardless of whether it is used by the customer or not.

The credits earned under the Feed-In Tariff are either credited to your electricity account or paid out to you in the form of a cheque. This occurs quarterly or annually depending on the electricity retailer.

Depending on your feed in tariff, it may be more beneficial to use electricity .in your home at night (where the feed in tariff is higher than your import tariff) or during the the day when the opposite is the case. Regardless, any methods which reduce your overall electricity consumption will enhance your solar returns.

Does a solar system require any maintenance?

Your solar panels need to be kept clean, if you have regular rain and your panels have a minimum of 10 degrees pitch they will stay reasonably clean, you should have your panels cleaned at least annually.  Depending on your location and surrounding area you may have to clean your panels more regularly.  Your inverter just requires periodic visual checks for operation. We do have a team of trained professionals that will come and perform a Solar Health Check, call us to find out more.

What is an STC?

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are created by eligible installations of small-scale solar photovoltaic panels. They are a government funded incentive. STCs are usually assigned to a registered agent (usually a retailer/installer) in exchange for a upfront discount on the system.

Do you provide any type of financing?

We do offer a finance option, It is through Certegy who offer interest free finance and also a $0 deposit option.
